Mahatma Gandhi was a great freedom fighter.He is also known as Father of the Nation and Bapu.He was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat in Hindu family.His real name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.Mahatma Gandhi's father Karamchand Gandhi was the Diwan of Porbandar, Rajkot.Gandhiji married Kasturba Makhanji in 1883.
Mahatma Gandhi completed his primary education at Porbandar and his secondary education at Rajkot.Then, he went to England to study law.He studied law at University Collage London in England and became a Barrister.
Mahatma Gandhi spent nearly 21 years in South Africa.There they had to face many problems.The British Rule there was doing injustice to Indians.To avenge this injustice,Gandhiji decided to fight against the British and for this he had decided to use the principal of non-violence.Gandhi used the Principal of Non-Violence to give Indians their civil rights.
Mahatma Gandhi's contribution to the Indian freedom struggle is very important.He had launched many movements against the British for the independence of India.He made many agitations in the Indian freedom struggle regardless of his life.Many time he was arrested and sent to jail but he did not give up.Gandhiji continued to fight against the British and due to his tireless struggle and sacrifice of thousands of freedom fighters,India became independent from British Slavery on 15 August 1947.
Such a great freedom fighter died on January 30,1948 in New Delhi.Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse.
